Dr. Keith L. Moore, Director of the Department of Anatomy at the University of Toronto, Canada, expressed surprise at the description of the fetal stages in Surat Al-Mu'minun: 12-14: "And, of course, we made man out of clay. We then made them into a drop of semen (Nutfah) in a strong shelter (womb). Then we made that drop into a blood clot (Alaqah - what clings), then we made that clot into a tumor (Mudghah) ... " The word "Alaqah" has three meanings in Arabic: leprosy, clinging, and clotting - which clearly corresponds to the shape and activity of the embryo.
